Jonah Levy is a Chicago born, Bay Area raised trumpeter who moved to Los Angeles three years ago.  He received his Bachelors of Music in trumpet performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA, and just completed a year of post-graduate studies at The Colburn School Conservatory of Music. He has also been a member of American Youth Symphony, the Golden State Pops Orchestra, the Pacific Brass Ensemble, and the Valley Symphony Orchestra. As a faculty member at the Kadima Conservatory, he taught trumpet to actress Elle Fanning for her roll in the film “Ginger and Rosa”(2012).  He also teaches inner-city 5th and 6th grade students in Inglewood and Koreatown as part of the Young Musicians Foundation Mentor Artists program, and stated his own studio giving private lessons to talented young trumpeters throughout LA.

Jonah Levy was formerly principal trumpet for the Young Musician Foundation’s Debut Orchestra (2009 through 2011 seasons), toured the world as a show band musician with Norwegian Cruise Lines, and was bandleader of the experimental klezmer band, “New Kids on the Shtetl,” in New York. He can often be heard performing in recital as a soloist of contemporary trumpet works, playing in the pits of musicals, doing recording sessions, and freelancing with orchestras throughout the LA area.

Most recently, he attended the Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale in New Hampshire, and traveled to Switzerland to play with the Lucerne Festival Academy under the direction of maestro Pierre Boulez. His primary teachers have been James Wilt, Edward Carroll, James Thompson, and Markus Stockhausen.
